Tamerthya

Is an Original Dungeons and Dragons Campaign World first published in 1987. It is the third campaign world that I created. The first campaign world was created in early 1978 and consisted of pencil and crayon hexagonal maps that featured a central continent split by several mountain chains as well as a vast inland tropical sea . The seeds of Tamerthya were present even in the earliest version of this D&D campaign and included pirates, transplanted Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks as well as a plethora of fantasy races and creatures from myth, legend. These Fantasy Worlds were also inspired by the books of Tannith Lee, CJ Cheryh, J.R.R. Tolkien, Andre Norton, Anne McCaffrey, Ursula K. Leguin, Susan Cooper, Michael Moorcock, C.S. Lewis, Robert Lynn Asprin, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Terry Brooks, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Glen Cook, Phillip Jose Farmer, Raymond E. Feist, Sir H Rider, Haggard, Katherine Kurtz, Patricia A. McKillip, John Norman, Terry Pratchett, Clark Ashton Smith, Michael Stackpole, and Roger Zelzany.

Complete Tamerthya map with a scale of 5 miles to the hex. It is approximately half the size of the United States.

The second campaign world was started in 1979-1980 and was very similar to the created continent that you see above. it was slightly smaller and consisted of only twelve maps, and included a kingdom based of the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

Tamerthya Political Map completed around 1989.

The Political Map of Tamerthya was divided into Twenty Four unique geographical areas each featuring unique races and groups which I will briefly describe here. Various races from Earth were transported here, coming from different times in the past.

1. The First Kingdom was Merthyr, where Welshmen from the time of King Arthur around 536 a.d. arrived more than four thousand years ago after sailing in an expedition to the West. More than five thousand Welshman in more than five hundred ships sailed in that year led by Madoc ap Owain Gwynedd into the Atlantic never to be seen again. They ended up here on a distant planet circling a distant star. The Kingdoms of 2. Gwynedd and 3. Tefi and 5. Saryn are splinter Kingdoms formed by groups that splintered away from the main group of Welsh settlers.

4. The Dwarven Highlands. The Dwarves are an ancient race originally from Tamerthya and were here before the humans. They preferred to settle in underground cities in the central hills and mountains.

5. Crystameer is the frozen wastelands of the North and are home to another ancient race that originated here, the blue skinned Ice Elves who live in Ice Palaces. They sail large Ice Sleds and Ships throughout the arctic areas. 6. Mabinogia is another splinter group of Welshmen mostly comprised of primitive fisherman and exotic sea races such as Mermen and Sahaugin.

7. Melwyn, 8. Bera, and 9. Selsea Melwyn is another splinter Kingdom of the original Welsh settlers but also includes Fey Spirits and Beings that live amongst the Welsh. The same can be said for Bera, however Bera also has a significant population of Wood Elves and Halflings. Selsea has very few humans however has significant populations of High Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, and Fey.

10. Colwyn is the wildest and most remote of the Welsh settlers preferring rugged Independence on the frontier of the true wilderness where animals, monsters, and mythical creatures abound.

11. Tabria is a vast desert where the transplanted ancient Egyptians and Arabs from the time of Akhenaton chose to reside here after being shipwrecked on the South Coast of Tabria.

12. Lynnar Province. The famed Ninth Legion from Brittainna set sail for home only to found themselves on a completely New World and decided to bring the best of Rome to this place and tame the Barbarians and Monsters of this strange new world.

13. Iberia. Settlement of the Islamic Arabs from the Crusades whose fleet was shipwrecked after they set sail in the Mediterranean to reinforce their brothers and allies in Spain. Instead they found themselves washed ashore just close to the New Roman Empire.

14. Ranhyn. A Nation of Ancient Druids, Centaurs, and other Demi-human races including Goblins, Orcs, Trolls, and Kobolds. No one is quite sure where the Druids are from, however the ancient Tamerthyan Demihuman races were here before the humans came.

15. Severn. A Nation of mixed races, Humans from Tabria, Lynnar, and Iberia, along with Elves, Dwarves, Druids, and Rangers.

16. Myndarr. Home of the Bronze aged Chinese of the Han Dynasty that were shipwrecked here after a great storm as they were sailing to attack Japan. The entire war fleet vanished and ended up marooned here on Tamerthya.

17. Barbarian Kingdoms. Ancient humans and Neanderthals. Very primitive.

18. Bera. One of the remote Welsh Kingdoms, composed of the wildest of the Welshmen, along with witches and Sorcerers. hates the Chinese and the Wild animals and Mythical Monsters that are constantly attacking them from the border lands.

19. The North Slope. Self styled Lords, Barons, Princes and Kings are working hard to tame this cold and unwelcome frontier land.

20. Eastern Wilderlands. Mostly unexplored. Here be Monsters.

21. The Inland Sea. A vast collection of Pirates and mostly uninhabited Islands sprinkled with various settlements of Humans, demi-Humans, Giants, Dragons, and Ogres.

22. Endless Forest. Pure unexplored wilderness. The Unknown.

23. The Great Jungle. Home of the Amazons who take men as slaves. Also Dinosaurs and Saurigs here… in abundance.

24. Unknown. Completely unexplored, and well… unknown.
